The 2017 beach season has finally begun. I was fortunate to be commissioned to photograph this beautiful group of women recently. The weather wasn't the warmest, but they were real troupers and wanted to commemorate their trip to Cape Cod to honor their Mother. They came to my studio the next day and ordered a wall portrait for Mom and two Image Collections. These are some of the portraits they ordered.
I've know Kevin, the Grandpa of this grand famiy, for a while due to my connection with the Falmouth Art Center. We are both members. He and his wife were celebrating their 50th anniversary and knew it was time to have a big gathering, celebrate and have family portraits taken by a professional. We got together at 7 AM on a Saturday in July. Why so early? Because the light was in the right place that time of day for the background they wanted. The location was right across the street from their home. It's the view they see every day when they are enjoying their summer home on The Cape. We were lucky when a few clouds came out. People don't realize how bright it can be that time of day. I gave them the option of 7 PM but we would have had to change the location due to the lighting conditions. They were game for the early session and it really worked out! We had a great time and they had the whole day ahead of them to be together, go to the beach, and enjoy each other.
Here's a video glimpse of me doing what I love, family portraits at the beach! It was a beautiful August evening with a lovely family celebrating their 50th anniversary. It was a pleasure working with Digital Imaging of Cape Cod last summer. Robert Lassiter created a very nice snipit into what I do. It was a gorgeous evening with a fairly steady breeze. Cape Cod beaches are pretty much always breezy. It seems to blow from west to east so when I'm photographing on the south side of The Cape, it's good to part your hair on your left side so it doesn't all blow infront of your face. Headbands and barrettes can come in handy.
Not all sessions are at the beach. This is my family celebrating my father's 90th birthday. It was such a huge milestone in our family. It was a chilly, windy day and going to the beach didn't seem like a great idea. We chose a section of our front yard with good light and a simple background. The white tops and jeans worked out great. My close friend and colleague, Dianne Marshall, helped out by photographing the portraits I was in.
I've been photographing this family since their daughter was an infant. This session was at a local shady beach. The only beach in Falmouth that allows dogs during the season. Their dog, Brady, passed this winter but lived to see four New England Patriot Super Bowl wins in his lifetime. Good dog!
I think they made a great choice wearing various pinks and jeans. To me, there's just something about a man in a pink buttondown shirt.
